  • Responsibilities

    Essential Duties:

    • Conduct internal and field tests on NGK products with the customer and/or NGK engineers following prescribed procedures.
    • Communicate between NGK and customers regarding testing related issues.
    • Write trip and test reports for all customer visits and communicate any critical issues to management.
    • Conduct engine and vehicle testing as required for the technical center.
    • Operate technical center equipment (oscilloscopes, data loggers, DAQ systems, etc.) as needed to collect test data to be used for technical reports.
    • Operate the technical center engine and chassis dynamometers (includes peripheral equipment such as driving robot, engine control tools, data acquisition, etc.) to a level required to complete assigned tests or tasks.
    • Troubleshoot vehicle, equipment, facility, and test sample systems as necessary, resolve issues unassisted and/or recommend appropriate resolutions.
    • Support maintenance and procurement of test equipment and supplies as needed to ensure quality testing.
    • Support calibration activity of all applicable instrumentation and equipment.
    • Assist in preparing and maintaining applicable procedures along with maintenance and test result documents.
    • Suggest improvements for, and help develop test procedures for new testing systems/equipment.
    • Train and guide appropriate technical center associates on test equipment operation and test methods as directed.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work place.
    • Practice good housekeeping (5S). Maintain and inventory test equipment.
    • Operate automotive hydraulic lift. Install and remove test equipment on vehicles and engines. 
    • Adhere to all company policies & procedures and will adhere to all company policies relating to IATF16949 and ISO14000.


    Academic Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

    • High school diploma or GED
    • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferred).
    • Minimum of 2 years experience in work experience in automotive systems or components testing.
    • Knowledge of all fields and disciplines in comprehending the function of NGK products.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of automotive technology testing – primarily internal combustion (SI, CI) engines, electrical and powertrain control systems.
    • Above average mechanical ability and mechanical/electrical troubleshooting skills (preferred).
    • Ability to quickly learn and use various data acquisition and test equipment hardware/software.
    • Technical knowledge of electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, control loop feedback mechanisms, PLCs, and data acquisition.
    • Demonstrated ability to use oscilloscopes, data loggers, engine calibration tools (INCA, ATI), etc. for data acquisition and troubleshooting.
    • General knowledge of engine and chassis dynamometer test equipment.
    • Ability to work as part of a team, making appropriate decisions, and sharing the workload as necessary to complete tasks.
    • Excellent communication and customer relations skills.
    • MS Office proficiency – able to create test reports, documents, spreadsheets and graphs to display test data and communicate results.
    • Experience in fabricating, welding, and piping. Able to use a lathe and milling machine (preferred).
    • Possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
    • Ability to travel up to 40%.
