  • Responsibilities

    Essential Duties:

    • Perform fabrication and installation of test equipment and hardware on test benches, vehicles and engine/chassis dynamometers as needed to conduct quality testing.
    • Operate technical center equipment (oscilloscopes, data loggers, DAQ systems, etc.) as needed to collect test data to be used for technical reports.
    • Operate the technical center engine and chassis dynamometers (includes peripheral equipment such as driving robot, engine control tools, data acquisition, etc.) to a level required to complete assigned tests or tasks.
    • Calibrate and tune test engines as necessary to meet test requirements.
    • Conduct internal and field tests on NGK products with NGK engineers and/or the customer, following prescribed procedures.
    • Track test samples for vehicle and dynamometer durability testing, installing, removing, facilitating inspection, and reinstalling test samples according to set time/mileage points, along with entering results into a database.
    • Troubleshoot vehicle, equipment, facility, and test sample systems as necessary, resolve issues and/or recommend appropriate resolutions.
    • Prioritize and plan test time, interval checks, fuel usage, etc. accordingly to minimize equipment and vehicle downtime.
    • Perform maintenance and procurement of test equipment and supplies as needed to ensure quality testing.
    • Support calibration activity of all applicable instrumentation and equipment.
    • Assist in preparing and maintaining applicable maintenance and test result documents.
    • Suggest improvements for, and help develop test procedures for new testing systems/equipment.
    • Perform rework of products as directed.
    • Train and guide appropriate technical center associates on test equipment operation and test methods.

    Qualifications

    Academic Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

    • High school diploma or GED (required).
    • Associate Degree in automotive technology field or commensurate work experience (i.e. working with technical data in a test laboratory or engineering environment).
    • Minimum three (3) years work experience in automotive or components testing (required).
    • Extensive knowledge of automotive technology – primarily internal combustion (SI, CI) engines, electrical and powertrain control systems.
    • Above average mechanical ability and mechanical/electrical troubleshooting skills.
    • Ability to quickly learn and use various data acquisition and test equipment hardware/software.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of automotive testing (particularly in powertrain technology)
    • Technical knowledge of electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, control loop feedback mechanisms, PLCs, and data acquisition.
    • Demonstrated ability to use oscilloscopes, data loggers, engine calibration tools (INCA, ATI), etc. for data acquisition and troubleshooting.
    • Extensive experience in operating engine and chassis dynamometer test equipment.
    • Proficient in fabricating, welding, and piping. Able to use a lathe and milling machine.
    • Ability to work as part of a team, making appropriate decisions, and sharing the workload as necessary to complete tasks.
    • MS Office proficiency – able to create documents, spreadsheets, etc. to display data.
    • Possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
    • Practice good housekeeping (5S). Maintain and inventory machine shop tools and equipment.
